The Highlanders traveled to upstate New York earlier this week to take on the Huskies of Word of Life Bible Institute in back to back games and won both, with final scores of 60-26 and 49-35.
In the Monday matchup, the Highlanders got off to a bit of a slow start, but used an impressive 21-point second quarter and lockdown second-half defense to stifle the Huskies and earn the decisive win. The 34-point margin of victory is the Highlander's largest in a game since the 2016-17 season.
In game one, the Highlanders were led by
Allison Barnes with 15 points and 6 rebounds.
Markie Watson (14 points/7 rebounds) and
Korin Bradley (14 points/3 rebounds) also played well-rounded games to lead to a Highlander win.
Game two of the series also started slowly on the offensive end for both teams, with the Huskies and Highlanders locked at only 9 points apiece after the first 10 minutes of play. However, just as the night before, the Highlanders turned it on in the second quarter behind the shooting of
Melissa Good and
Allison Barnes, slowly building a lead that they never relinquished to a final score of 49-35.
Both Barnes and Good had 11 point, 4 rebound performances, followed by
Amanda Barry and
Emily Minard with 9 and 8 points, respectively.
The Highlanders have little downtime before facing Lancaster Bible College in a home-and-home series on Friday, February 19
th and Saturday, February 20
th. While LBC is a longtime friendly rival of most Cairn athletic teams, the lady Highlanders have not faced the Chargers in almost a decade, when then-Philadelphia Biblical University lost a tight matchup 62-55.
