Cairn (2-17 / 1-10 UNITED EAST) struggled to find momentum in the first quarter, letting Gallaudet (6-13 / 4-6 UNITED EAST) get out to an early 8-0 lead. Junior forward
Dezaray Bright ( Keystone Heights, FL / Keystone Heights) knocked down 3 mid range shots in the quarter, but the Highlanders could not keep up with the scoring of the Bison. Cairn entered the second quarter trailing 25-7. The second quarter saw the Highlanders struggle to find their rhythm again with 5th year guard
Kailee Sobrino (Vail, AZ / Empire) contributed 5 points to the Cairn scoring effort but saw the team enter half losing 43-16.
The second half featured a much improved Highlander offense, Cairn started the third frame with an 8-2 fueled by 2 jumpers from Bright. 5 more points from Sobrino and another mid-range jumper by Bright caped off the scoring for Cairn in the 3rd quarter, sending the game to the fourth at 56-31.A flurry of free throws early in the fourth started the scoring for Cairn. The Highlanders kept this momentum rolling with baskets from Sobrino, Bright and junior forward
Emily Brittin (Winslow, NJ / Pilgrim Academy). Cairn capped off the 4th with points by freshmen
Peyton Magie (Chesterfield, NJ / New Jersey United Christian Academy) and
Olivia Logan (Cherry Hill, NJ / Camden County College). The game concluded with a final score of 67-48.
Cairn returns to action by going on the road to play at Penn College on Saturday February 7th at 3 PM.
