Insurance Coverage for Athletic Participation
Every student participating in Cairn University Athletics is responsible to have primary insurance before being permitted to practice. If a student participates in a ‘Share Program’, a statement must be provided on an official letterhead explaining that the organization will cover any medical expenses if an injury were to occur from participating in a NCAA Athletics at Cairn University. This letterhead must be signed by an authorized person at the ‘Share Program’ such as an officer or general counsel. This is required by business services.
Â
Supplemental Athletic Insurance
All students are required to have personal health insurance. This insurance may be through a parent's plan or purchased through the University. Cairn University provides supplemental insurance through BMI Benefits, LLC for those athletic injuries due to accidents that occur while participating in athletics. Once the athlete has met all of their deductibles and co-payments, any outstanding charges that the primary insurance company will not pay revert back to BMI Benefits, LLC. In order for BMI Benefits, LLC to process these claims, they require an EOB (Explanation of Benefits) from the primary insurance company stating non-payment and an insurance claim form.
The NCAA provides a catastrophic injury insurance policy for all of its member institutions' athletes. If you have any questions regarding these insurance coverage’s, please visit the NCAA's website atÂ
www.NCAA.org.
          Â
All athletic paperwork and screenings must be completed before being allowed to try out for a Cairn University Athletic Program. Please contact athletic trainer to make sure this information is turned in.
