ELKTON, MD- The Highlanders participated in the Revolutionary Collegiate Classic this weekend at Patriots Glen National Golf Club finishing in 6
th place out of 6 teams. The tournament was won by the Goucher Gophers who tallied an impressive 606 over the two days and also had the individual winner in Roberto Mikse who totaled 70 and 75 to finish at one over par.
Â
On the first day of play, Cairn was led by
Ryan Borrmann who rebounded from an opening hole double bogey to shoot 79. Borrmann carded three birdies on the first day, birdieing a par 5 on each side, and the third hole as well with a beautiful approach to within three feet.
Mike Boucher also played an excellent round on the demanding track, carding an 87 that was highlighted by a birdie on the third hole as well. On the short par 4, Boucher smoked his drive over the bunkers and rolled his wedge up to a couple feet to tap in for his birdie. With out of bounds on nearly every hole, the Highlanders struggled a bit off the tee as Nate Borrmann,
Mark Heater, and Phil Nathan finished at 104, 144, 153.
Â
The Highlanders improved greatly the second day, largely thanks to a more conservative approach off the tee and an increased amount of course knowledge. Sophomore Nate Borrmann carded the best round of his collegiate career with an impressive 89. Borrmann relied on his iron play and putting throughout the afternoon, laying up off the tee on a majority of holes and continually burying lengthy par putts to shoot his career low.
Ryan Borrmann skated through the early stages of his second round, birdieing hole fourteen and three once more, and also sticking a 5 iron to 2 feet on the 540 yard 6
th hole for a tap in eagle. Borrmann finished at 79 the second day as well, with a two day total of 158 to finish in 12
th place overall.
Mike Boucher scuffled a bit the second day, finishing at 93 and 28
th overall for the tournament.
Mark Heater shaved 22 strokes off of his first day total, and Phil Nathan cut 5 strokes to improve the second day as well.
Â
The Highlanders will look to build on their solid second day play at the Franklin & Marshall Invitational at Bent Creek Country Club on Monday.
