Men’s Golf: Borrmann Posts Top-Five Finish at Alvernia Invitational

MOHNTON, Pa. – The Cairn University men's golf team continued its traditional spring season at the Alvernia Invitational at Ledgerock Golf Club on Tuesday, composing of both Division II and Division III teams.
 
Four Highlanders competed on the day in severely windy conditions, led by senior Ryan Borrmann (Warminster, PA / William Tennant) who posted another top-five finish with a five-over par round of 77 on the par-72, 6,792-yard track in the 44-player field. Borrmann tied for the best performance of the day on the par-5's, playing them in one-under par. Borrmann was followed by senior Brad Garges (Perkasie, PA / Pennridge) with a round of 113 (+41) to place 41st, while sophomore Danny Smullen (Palmyra, PA / Mount Calvary Christian School) shot 124 (+52) to finish one spot back in 42nd. Graduate Student Joe (Theo) Mentos rounded out the day for Cairn in 43rd place with a score of 128 (+56).
 
West Chester University won the team title with a score of 303 (+15). West Chester graduate student Chris Warner won the individual title with the only under-par round of the day with a 71 (-1).
 
Cairn will be back on the course on Monday, April 25 when it competes in its final contest of season in a dual match against Clarks Summit University at Stone Hedge Golf Course at 12 p.m., which will also mark the final match in the historic career of Ryan Borrmann.
