Poor First Half Sinks Lady Highlanders

Box Score Scranton, PA- With snow on the way, the Lady Highlanders were plagued by cold-shooting, and fell to the Pacers of Marywood University by a score of 65-49.

Box Score (Coming Soon)

On a night where the Lady Highlanders would far outperform their competitors in the second half, Cairn's women simply could not find enough offense in the opening half to come away with a win against Marywood.  Two three pointers from Cairn point guard Amie Eppolito tied the contest 6-6 in the early goings; but after this point, the Pacers mounted a massive run that nearly sunk the Lady Highlanders hopes from the get-go.  A jumper from Whitney Seidel, and another Eppolito trey would conclude the Lady Highlanders scoring in the first half, and Cairn entered the break trailing by a score of 11-38.

As Cairn took the floor for the second half, the situation may have seemed bleak, but the Lady Highlanders began to find some of the offensive firepower they had so sorely needed in the first half.  Cairn's tandem of guards, Eppolito and Elizabeth Joy Hartzler, caught fire from the outside as they combined for eight three pointers in the second half.  The Lady Highlanders slowly chipped away at the Pacers' lead, but the first half deficit racked up by Marywood remained too large to overcome, as the Lady Highlanders would be defeated by a score of 65-49.

Despite the loss, the story of this game was not all negative, as the Lady Highlanders put together a complete offensive performance in the second half, and were able to outscore Marywood by a score of 38-27.  If the Lady Highlanders had found their shooting strokes in the first period, they may have left Scranton with a win.

The Lady Highlanders saw positive production from many players tonight, and those players were:

Amie Eppolito (27 points, 4 rebounds, 2 assists)
Elizabeth Joy Hartzler (12 points, 2 rebounds, 3 assists)
Emily Tambussi (6 points, 10 rebounds)

The Lady Highlanders, weather-permitting, will battle Valley Forge Christian College at 3:00 PM Saturday afternoon in an NCCAA clash.
