Box Score
Phoenixville, PA - Valley Forge Christian College controlled proceedings for the full 40 minutes of tonight's NCCAA East Region Semi-Final, handing the Highlanders a 60-27 loss and effectively ending the season for Cairn.
The Highlanders struggled mightily from the floor in the opening half, shooting only 15%, making just three shots. All three came courtesy of senior forward
Hannah McCardle, playing in her final game for the Highlanders.
Early on, nothing seemed out of the ordinary. Cairn and Valley Forge opened the first two minutes matching each stride for stride with the score tied 5-5, with
Erin Greenwood converting two free-throws and McCardle knocking down the Highlanders first shot of the game, a three pointer.
At that point, Valley Forge made the most of their home-court advantage, going on an 8-1 run over the next 5:07, leading Cairn 13-6. With 6:52 remaining in the half, the Patriots held a 23-11 lead. Suddenly, things went from bad to worse for the Highlanders. For the remainder of the half, Cairn would go 0-for-5 from the field and committed a number of turnovers, allowing the host to build a 22-point lead before halftime, 33-11, ending the half on a 10-0 run.
Cairn's shooting would improve in the second half, but not to a level that would allow them to get back into the game.
With the absence of any major runs or threats of a comeback, the Highlanders season fizzled out with a 60-27 defeat.
Hannah McCardle closed her career out with one last double-double, 10 points and 12 rebounds.
Erin Greenwood finished with 7 points and 10 rebounds.
Amanda Reich and Morgan Godwin had a good night, finishing with 21 and 19 points respectively. Amanda Compton rounded things off for the Patriots with 11 points and 12 rebounds for a double-double.
The Highlanders finish the season 2-23 overall, 2-14 in conference play. Their two league wins improves on a solo win from last season.
