Langhorne, PA - The women's basketball team lost to non-conference foe Trinity University (DC) on Monday night, 58-45.

Cairn raced out of the blocks in the opening minutes, jumping out to a 5-0 and then 7-3 lead, thanks to an early
Haley Weber 3-pointer and 4 points from
Ruth Nelson. The Tigers, however, responded with a 9-0 run to skip out to a 12-7 lead. Trinity clung to a slim lead throughout the remainder of the half and took a 27-21 lead into the break.
The second stanza started much the way the first half ended, with the Tigers clinging to a single-digit lead over the Highlanders as the two teams traded baskets. But by the 13:40 mark, Trinity had built its way to a double-digit lead, 34-24. As the half wore on, the turnovers started to pile up for the Highlanders as fatigue started to takes its toll on the shortened bench. Trinity eventually saw its lead swell to 21 points before a late Cairn rally trimmed the deficit to only 11 point by the final buzzer. In the end, the Tigers defeated Cairn 58-45.
Trinity scored 28 points off of turnovers, holding a 28-11 advantage in that category. The Tigers committed 22 turnovers themselves but Cairn was unable to make as much out of them as their opponents.
Cairn's
Hannah McCardle finished with a game-high 13 points and has reached double-figures in each of her last five games. Junior guard
Haley Weber had 10 points on the night to finish in double-digits for the fourth time in five games.
Erin Greenwood was huge in the paint, coming up with a game-high 10 rebounds.
Ruth Nelson logged 9 points and 6 rebounds. Running point for the Highlanders was
Amie Eppolito who contributed 9 points and tied for a game-high 6 assists.
Regina Younger recorded a team-high 3 steals in just 9 minutes of action, while
Emily Tambussi went 1-for-1 from the floor.
Three different players reached 10 points or more for the visiting Tigers. Both Ashley Brown and Kenyatta Robertson finished with 11 points while Christa Burgess talled 10 points. Thamar Polynice had 9 points and tied for a game-high 6 assists for Trinity.
The Highlanders return to conference play this Wednesday when they play host to Notre Dame (MD). Tip-off is at 6pm.
