Hackettstown, NJ - The women's basketball team made an 11-2 run mid-way through the first half of Monday's game against Centenary College, but it was sandwiched by even two bigger Cyclone runs.

The opening three minutes were saw a flurry of action from the home side, forcing 4 Cairn turnovers on their way to a 13-0 lead right off the bat. After settling in, the Highlander went on a run of their own. From 16:15 to the 9:33 mark, Cairn outscored Centenary 11-2. All 11 of those points were scored by
Hannah McCardle and
Erin Greenwood, as the two forwards powered the visitors back into the game.
Like flicking off a switch, the tables turned yet again. Over the course of the final 9 minutes, Centenary closed out the half, rolling on a 19-2 forray. The half came with Centenary leading 34-13.
The Cyclones used a 10-3 push out of the break to extend their lead, 44-16. As if on cue, the Highlanders gathered momentum for their own run. McCardle,
Ruth Nelson, and
Haley Weber combined to outscore the host 11-5 over the following 4 minutes, bringing the score to 50-25. But as if everything had to go just as in the first half, the Cyclones made another final push at the end of the half. Centenary made a 14-0 run in a 7 minute time span, giving them a 39 point advantage, 64-25, before things finished 68-33.
Both McCardle and Weber reached double digits for the Highlanders. McCardle dropped 13 points and grabbed 9 rebounds, both a team-high. Weber gathered 10 points on the night. Ruth Nelson and Erin Greenwood combined for 17 rebounds, with Greenwood tying McCardle with a team-high 9 rebounds.
Three different Cyclones reached double figures, led by Nicole Collins who had a game-high 16 points.
23 Cairn turnovers led to 27 Cyclone points while Centenary also controlled the paint, outscoring their guests down low 28-4.
The Highlanders return home this Wednesday to take on Keystone College at 6pm.
