Giants Dwarf Highlanders

La Plume, PA - The Cairn Highlanders struggled from the field, finishing with their second lowest point total of the season against Colonial States Athletic Conference rival Keystone College.

Defense dominated the early proceedings in the early afternoon game. It took 10 minutes before either team reached double-digits. The Giants converted a free-throw at the 10:19 mark of the first half to make it a 10-6 scoreline in favor of the host. For the rest of opening stanza, Keystone outscored Cairn 15-2 to take a 25-8 lead into halftime.

Neither team shot particularly well in the first half, with the Giants fairing slightly better going 25% from the field. The Highlanders couldn't find a rhythm, shooting 3-for-18 and 0-for-7 from 3-pt range.

Both teams picked things up in the second half, but it was still the defense that was more impressive. Cairn and Keystone traded baskets the first 4 minutes, bringing the score to 35-15 before Keystone went on a 8-0 run, building a 43-15 lead. The Giants had an even bigger run starting at the 10:12 mark. With the score sitting at 48-21, five consecutive buckets from Keystone kick started a 14-2 run, giving them a 62-23 advantage.

Not much happened the final two minutes as Keystone closed proceedings with a 66-27 conference win.

The Giants dominated the game in a multitude of areas, including a 44-0 advantage in bench points, 32-4 lead in points in the paint, 24-0 in points off of turnovers. The Highlanders did have the two highest individual rebounders in Erin Greenwood and Ruth Nelson. Greenwood finished with a game-high 9 rebounds followed closely by Nelson's 8 rebounds. Hannah McCardle bounced back from being shutout against Gwynedd-Mercy by pacing Cairn with a team-high 13 points.

Keystone's Ashley Evans had a game-high 15 points while 11 other Giants recorded points.

The defeat leaves Cairn at 0-12 overall and 0-6 in conference play. Keystone moves to 8-4, 3-3.
