Poole Plays Final Home Game With All-Around Performance

Box Score

Langhorne, PA
- Senior guard Sara Poole (Edison, NJ / Timothy Christian) played her final game in the Mason Activity Center for Philadelphia Biblical University's women's basketball team.

Poole's performance was an all-around effort. The 4-year player had 11 points and 7 rebounds, both of which were good enough for 3rd highest total this season, while playing every second of the game. In her favorite stat category, Poole had 5 assists.

In a decision just before tip-off, Coach Howell decided to rest star forward Danielle Bradley-Wilson (Philadelphia, PA / Delaware Valley Charter) who was struggling with an ankle injury, with the NCCAA East Region playoffs in mind. Regardless of the result tonight, PBU are not in contention for a CSAC playoff berth.

The game started off as a back-and-forth affair with neither side able to take control of the game. With just under 7 minutes played, the two teams were only separated by two points, 11-13 with Rosemont leading. In a tale eerily similar to many games this season, the Crimson Eagles started to fall behind allowing their opponents a cushion to play with in the second half. Over the next 4 minutes, the Ravens would go on a 14-2 run and break open a 25-13 score line.

A Rosemont three-pointer with 9 seconds left in the half by Alexandra Gravinese gave the Ravens their largest lead of the night heading into halftime, 42-25.

In the first half, Rosemont had one two crucial statistical areas; points in the paint and second chance points. The Ravens had 14 points in the paint, compared to PBU's 6 and recorded 18 second chance points. PBU had just 4 second chance points.

Knowing what they had to do and having been in this situation many times before, the Crimson Eagles came out determined not to let their last home game of the 2011-2012 get out of hand. They were going to fight until the end.

Early on, Rosemont had built a 23 point lead but the Crimson Eagles started slowly chipping away behind some improved second half shooting. After shooting only 31% in the first half, PBU shot an impressive 49% in the second.

With less than 10 minutes to play, PBU had pulled to within 11 points and you could feel the excitement in the crowd of a potential comeback. That would be as close as the Crimson Eagles would get though, eventually losing by 14. Final score Rosemont 83 - PBU 69.

Pointing out the areas they needed to improve on, you could see the reasoning behind the almost comeback. PBU closed the margin in second chance points to 13-9, still in favor of Rosemont. The Crimson Eagles did, however, enjoy a 15-4 advantage in points off the bench; a big reason why PBU outscored the Ravens in the second half, 44-41.

Haley Weber (Newfane, NY / Newfane) had a team-high 18 points. Brianna Teijaro (Gap, PA / Pequea Valley) had a personal best for the season 10 points. Also with a season high, Ruth Nelson (Spofford, NH / Keene) came down with 11 rebounds.

Rosemont's Ashley Montecchio had a game-high 23 points to lead the Ravens. Vanessa Johnson had an impressive 19 rebound performance.

The Crimson Eagles wrap up the regular season with a 4-21, 1-15 record.

On February 21, PBU will travel to Phoenixville, PA to take on Valley Forge Christian College in the NCCAA East Region playoffs. The game time is yet to be set and will be posted as soon as it is announced. PBU is the #3 seed in the East, while VFCC is the #2 seed. Lancaster Bible College is the #1 seed and earns an automatch spot in the regional final.
