Box Score
Phoenixville, PA - Night and day. That's how you could describe the Crimson Eagles' performance on Thursday night against Valley Forge Christian College.
The first half belong completely to the Patriots. After starting the game with the first two baskets, opening up a 4-0 lead, the Crimson Eagles didn't score for the next ten minutes. In those ten minutes, Valley Forge went on a 19-0 run. PBU finally woke out of its slump to knock down back-to-back buckets. First a Ruth Nelson (Spofford, NH / Keene) layup followed by a quick three 22 seconds later by Haley Weber (Newfane, NY / Newfane). That brought the score to 19-9. That started yet another run from the Patriots, who put together a 21-0 run. PBU added two more points before half to make it 40-11.
Whatever happened or was said at halftime to the PBU women's basketball team, they seemed to have got the message. Although they were unable to go on any big runs to shift momentum in their favor, the Crimson Eagles at least put an end to any streaks by the Patriots. For the entirety of the second half, the two teams basically traded baskets, with one minor difference. The Crimson Eagles won the second half 38-36.
The final score matters most, but PBU can take a small victory away from this game. They improved their shooting from 15% in the first half to 34% in the second half.
Valley Forge would win 76-49.
Danielle Bradley-Wilson (Philadelphia, PA / Delaware Valley Charter) for only the third time this season failed to reach double-digits in the points column, despite pulling down 17 rebounds(12 of which were of the offensive variety). It was
Hannah McCardle (Lewisberry, PA / Red Land) who led the Crimson Eagles this time out with 15 points on 5-of-14 shooting, including 4-for-7 from 3-point range.
Valley Forge's Morgan Godwin had a game-high 25 points with teammate Amanda Reich close behind with 23.
PBU returns to Colonial States Athletic Conference action this Saturday at Cabrini College. Game time is set for 2pm.
