Allentown, PA - With a growing injury crisis, the Philadelphia Biblical University Crimson Eagle's women's basketball team took on the Falcons of Cedar Crest College in a North Division battle within the Colonial States Athletic Conference.
With an extremely limited bench, three of the Crimson Eagles ladies played every second of the game; H
annah McCardle (Lewisberry, PA / Red Lion), Sara Poole (Edison, NJ / Timothy Christian), and
Haley Weber (Newfane, NY / Newfane). Elyse Ceide (Hamilton, NJ / Steinert) played 38 minutes.
PBU were without normal starters
Dani Wilson-Bradley (Philadelphia, PA / Delaware Valley Charter) and
Ruth Nelson (Spofford, NH / Keene) and regular
Brianna Teijaro (Gap, PA / Pequea Valley).
The teams remained within 4 points of each other throughout the opening 10 minutes of the game, until fatigue began setting in for the shorthanded Crimson Eagles. Cedar Crest used their deeper bench to its advantage and began breaking away. At 11:15, the score was 16-15 in favor of Cedar Crest. By halftime, it read 43-25. A 27-10 run over the remaining 11 minutes for the Falcons.
The second half continued in much the same manner the first half ended, with an exhausted PBU team trying to keep up. The game finished 83-53.
Despite the loss, several of the Crimson Eagles had solid stats thanks to large minutes played. Hannah McCardle recorded her 2nd highest point total for the season with 15 to lead the Crimson Eagles. Senior guard Sara Poole and freshman forward Emily Cronin both recorded individual season highs. Poole finished with 14 points while Cronin had a career best 10 points. Elyse Ceide also tied her career-best with 11 points.
Next up, the women will travel north to Scranton, PA to take on Marywood University. Tip-off is scheduled for 6pm on Wednesday, February 1.
