BBC Blows Open Game in 2nd Half

Box Score

Langhorne, PA
- The Crimson Eagles kept it close for the opening 18 minutes but the Defenders of Baptist Bible blew the game open in the second half.

After getting blown out in the first meeting between these two teams, PBU's women came out determined not to let it happen again. Back on January 7, Baptist Bible jumped out to a 14 point lead after only 7 minutes. This time around, after 7 minutes the Defenders held only a 3 point lead. In fact, over the course of the first 18 minutes of the contest, BBC never led by more than 6 points. Although the Crimson Eagles never led, a Ruth Nelson (Spofford, NH / Keene) jumper with just over 6 minutes to play in the first half pulled it to within 1.

But with less than a minute and a half before halftime, back-to-back 3-pointers from BBC's Ruthie Butts stretched the lead to 12 points, the Defenders largest lead up to that point.

Not known for strong second half performances, the Crimson Eagles needed to make a run early in the half to set the tone for a comeback if they were to have any shot of upsetting Baptist. Instead, it was the Defenders who went on the offensive. After an early free-throw from PBU's Sara Poole (Edison, NJ / Timothy Christian), it took the Crimson Eagles nearly 12 minutes before they would score again. In that time, Baptist went on a 33-1 run. Danielle Bradley-Wilson (Philadelphia, PA / Delaware Valley Charter) finally put fears of a basketless half to rest with a jumper from about 12 feet.

Well before that bucket, it had become about damage control for Ed Howell and the Crimson Eagles.

BBC would finish 75-40 winners.

The Defenders Kacee Rava led all scorers with 18 points and rebounders with 13. PBU's Danielle Bradley-Wilson led the Crimson Eagles with 15 points and 11 rebounds. Sara Poole had 9 points and 6 assists.

PBU falls to 4-13, 1-10. BBC moves to 12-5, 7-2.

Next on the schedule, the Crimson Eagles travel west on the Pennsylvania Turnpike to take on non-conference rivals Lancaster Bible this Thursday at 6pm.
