Cold Shooting Hinders PBU

Box Score

CLARKS SUMMIT, PA - The good news from Saturday's game with Baptist Bible College? PBU's defense was pretty good. The bad news? Their offense wasn't.

The Crimson Eagles had major issues finding the cup over the weekend against the Defenders, hitting just two field goals in the first stanza and 16.3 percent of their looks for the game en route to a 52-28 loss against their rival.

The host squad swarmed PBU throughout the opening 20 minutes, negating the Crimson Eagles opportunities for open looks at the bucket. The visitors knocked down just two of 20 field goal attempts during the frame including a goose egg (zero for 10) from downtown.

Baptist sat in control with a 30-8 lead by the time the first half horn had sounded and went on to collect their fourth win in five games thanks, in large part, to their opening period defense.

The Crimson Eagles played adequate on the defensive side of the ball allowing the Defenders to knock down just 33.3 percent of their looks from the floor for the game, but Baptist churned out the victory by maintaining significant margins in second chance points (14-7), bench points (15-1), and points in the paint (14-2).

Despite turning the ball over just 16 times for the contest - their second lowest mark of the season - PBU's subpar shooting effort left the group with their lowest point total in over two full years and gave the group their second straight loss to the Defenders.

Haley Weber posted 10 points and four boards for PBU and Sara Poole added eight and six, respectively.

The basketball team will get back into action on Tuesday during a home date with Neumann College at 6:00 pm.
