LANGHORNE, PA - After trailing for much of the game and facing a double digit deficit midway through the second half, PBU's Women's Basketball team rallied late on to earn a hard-fought 53-51 victory over the visiting Patriots of Valley Forge Christian College.
Valley Forge Christian had opened up a small lead after only 5 minutes, but the Crimson Eagles chipped away and remained close heading into the break, with Valley Forge leading 24-19. The Patriots started to breakaway in the second half, twice leading by as many as ten points, but the Crimson Eagles wouldn't go away.
With little over 10 minutes to play, Valley Forge Christian held a 36-30 lead. The final 10 minutes of the game saw a flurry of offensive action, especially from PBU with the Crimson Eagles nearly doubling their offensive output for the game. PBU would outscore the Patriots down the stretch 23-15, taking the lead for the first time since they led 12-11 early in the first half. Valley Forge Christian had a chance to tie the game up at 53 with 4 seconds remaining, but the final shot from the Patriots bounced off the rim and into the hands of
Danielle Bradley-Wilson (Philadelphia, PA / Delaware Valley Charter) to finish the game.
Sophomore Danielle Bradley-Wilson paced the Crimson Eagles with 16 points. Both
Haley Weber (Newfane, NY / Newfane) and
Ruth Nelson (Spofford, NH / Keene) notched the 11 point mark.
Despite giving up 9 offensive rebounds, PBU outscored the Patriots in the paint, 24-10. Turnovers continue to be a problem for the Crimson Eagles, this time giving away 14 points on 9 turnovers.
PBU improves to 4-2, 1-0 and have their first 4-game winning streak since the 2006-2007 season. That season, the Crimson Eagles put together a four and six game winning streak.
PBU will play host this Saturday, December 3 when Gwynedd-Mercy College comes to town. The Griffins come into the game 2-3, 1-1. Their most recent game was a 77-85 loss to Neumann University.
The Griffins won last season's only meeting easily, 80-36.
