SCRANTON, PA – Following a slow start Thursday evening, the women’s basketball squad managed a respectable finish over the final 20 minutes of action but ultimately fell to Marywood University on the road, 63- 42.
Going down 41-18 at the break, the Crimson Eagles picked up their defensive gusto and limited the Pacers to just 22 second half points. Marywood shot just 23.5 percent from floor in the stanza after knocking down at a blistering 51.6 clip in the initial frame.
Perhaps PBU’s biggest shortcoming came in the turnover department as 34 cough-ups led to 29 more shots for the host group for the game. The Crimson Eagles shot well from the field, hitting 47.2 percent of their looks at the basket, but couldn’t overcome their 34-15 discrepancy in turnovers for the contest.
The Pacers also used their size to manufacture a 21-7 edge in offensive rebounds and had twelve players reach the scoring column during the group’s 14th triumph of the season.
Third-year guard Sara Poole had the hot hand all night for the Crimson Eagles, drilling a career high five three pointers in just six total attempts from long range to finish the evening with 15 points. Careth Herron and Haley Weber each chipped in with nine.
The Crimson Eagles slip to 2-14 on the year with a 1-7 mark n conference play following Thursday’s loss to the Pacers.
The group will get back in action this Saturday during a home swing with Cabrini College at 2:00 pm.
