READING, PA - The men's golf team opened up their 2010-11 slate Wednesday afternoon, going up against host Penn State Berks at Fox Chase Golf Club.
The team showed no signs of rust around the par 72, 6,607 yard course, posting a 327 on the afternoon as a unit - a score good enough to equal the third lowest team round in PBU golf history.
Junior Garry North put up a career number during the round, firing a 75 to finish just three over par, a number good enough to signal the second-lowest individual score in program history. North obliterated his previous personal best by four strokes as his personal record before Wednesday came during his freshman campaign when he shot a 79 at the Immaculata Spring Invitational.
Rookie Brian Loesser produced a solid round during his first collegiate match, turning in an 81 to finish nine over. Sam Wilcox carded a respectable 85, Tim Slothower an 86, and Alex Mitchell rounded out the top five with an 88.
The Crimson Eagles bullied past the Nittany Lions as the host group finished 48 strokes back, ending the afternoon with a 375.
The golf team will return to action next Thursday, competing in Messiah College's Falcon Classic. Tee-time is 12:30 pm.
