Box Score
LANGHORNE, PA - On paper, it might not have looked like much of a match-up. Marywood University not only sits atop the northern CSAC standings, but the Pacers boast the second stingiest defense among the 12 team conference field.
Apparently someone forgot to tell the Crimson Eagles the aforementioned fact during their opening period with Marywood Thursday night.
The Crimson Eagles shell-shocked the visitors by drilling 15 of 28 first half field goal attempts while sniping five of 11 looks for long range. It was an effort good enough to leave the score locked at 40-apiece by the time the first 20 minutes expired.
But PBU's hot hand would evaporate during the back end of play as the host group would hit just four field goals throughout the second stanza. Marywood would clamp down and stifle the Crimson Eagles into a 23.5 clip for the period as the Pacers finally found their groove, pounding out a 68-53 win behind a 20-2 spurt to open the final 20 minutes.
Marywood locked up 14 offensive rebounds for the game, generating a 14-3 edge in second chance points throughout the night. The visitors would also capitalize on 23 PBU cough-ups, leading to the Pacers 25-10 advantage in points off of turnovers.
The Crimson Eagles received 23 points from PBU senior guard Dani Norton along with 13 points from junior Careth Herron. Fourth-year forward Lindsey Forwalt added six points and seven boads in 29 minutes of action.
The basketball team will get their second go-around with Marywood in less than 48 hours as the tandem will duel for a second time on Saturday at 1:00 pm.
