HACKETTSTOWN, NJ - It might not have been the most aesthetically pleasing game for the Crimson Eagles on the court Monday evening, but regardless of the final outcome, senior guard Dani Norton nonetheless stamped her name in the PBU record books.
Norton hit a monumental milestone during the Crimson Eagles' 84-53 loss to Centenary College as the senior guard vaulted into the number one spot on the all time women's basketball scoring list. Norton entered the game with 1,820 career points to her credit, sitting just a single tally shy of Kirsten Herzler's previous program record of 1,821.
Five minutes into play on Monday Norton eclipsed the mark, finding the bottom of the net on a soft layup inside the paint to put her atop the scoring list. She finished with a modest mark 12 points for the game, and somewhat ironically, none of those points came from long range, signaling just the fifth time in Norton's four-year career that the native of Elizabethtown, PA has failed to connect on a trifecta.
The top scoring team in the nation dusted off the Crimson Eagles during the opening stanza, rolling out to a 46-27 edge by the intermission. A 38-26 performance in favor of the host squad during the second period helped give the Cyclones their 11th conference triumph of the year.
Centenary bruised their way to 19 offensive rebounds throughout the evening, marking the fifth time in six games PBU has surrendered 17-plus o-boards. The Cyclones also collected a distinct 28-18 difference in points from the interior while breaking the 80-point barrier for the 17th time this season.
Senior forward Lindsey Fornwalt paced PBU with 15 points and Careth Herron and Sarah Oessenich each chipped in with 11.
The Crimson Eagles fall to 4-18 on the year while Centenary improves to 14-10 overall.
The basketball team will play in their second-to-last home contest this Thursday, taking on Marywood University at 6:00 pm.
