DENVER, PA - With the return of four of the team's top five players from a year ago, the men's golf squad set their ambitions high heading into Wednesday's season opening round match in the Penn State Berks Invitational.
Although the group wasn't able to muster a first place finish, the Crimson Eagles nonetheless managed to record a 327 for the afternoon, tying the squad for the third best round in school history.
Stevenson University tallied a 310 on the afternoon to capture the gold prize in the three-team affair, an effort good enough to give the Mustangs an average score of 77.5 amongst their top four golfers. Penn State Berks rounded out the scoring in third place, notching a 348.
PBU's top four golfers each finished within two strokes of one another, with Corey Snyder and Sam Wilcox spearheading the way after rounding the 6,710 yard, par 72 course in 81 strokes. Jared Wilcox followed up with an 82 and Garry North compiled an 83 to finish in the fourth spot for the Crimson Eagles.
The golf team will get back into action this Saturday when the group heads to Hummels Wharf, PA to take part in the Susquehanna Fall Invitational. Tee off time is 1:00 pm.
