West Chester, PA - Going up against CSAC competition for the first time during the spring season, the Crimson Eagles entered Wednesday's match looking to make some noise.
Mission accomplished.
PBU's record setting round of 315 was more than enough to turn some heads Wednesday as the Crimson Eagles overcame conference foes Neumman College, Immaculata University, and Gwynedd-Mercy College as well as Misericordia College to secure the top finish at the Broad Run Golf Club.
Wednesday's performance marks the fourth time in two years the Crimson Eagles have managed to surpass the school record. The team smashed their own previous mark by five strokes, cruising past the 320 the group managed during early September of the fall season.
PBU's historic round came on the heels of several personal bests, albeit in somewhat uncooperative weather conditions.
After struggling to an 89 just two days ago, sophomore Corey Snyder paved the way with a career-low 76 for the afternoon. Senior Nate King rounded the course in 78 strokes, and rookie Garry North broke 80 for the first time in his collegiate career, carding a 79. Classmate Sam Wilcox also managed a personal best 81, and junior Jared Wilcox rounded out the scoring with an 82.
The Crimson Eagles all but blew away the competition as the second place squad, Misericordia, finished 10 strokes back at 325. Neumman College managed a 329 and host Immaculata University registered a 339. Gwynedd-Mercy rounded out the scoring with a 417.
Misericordia's Brian Marzolino took home the top individual prize, shooting a one-over par 73.
The golf team will return to action next Tuesday by playing at the Springhaven Country Club in Wallingford, PA.
