GRAYSON, KY - With the championship title bout officially out of reach, the Crimson Eagles secured the next best thing, grabbing the bronze prize in their final day in Kentucky by defeating Atlanta Christian College 60-52 in the third place game.
During a game that PBU led the whole way and never looked back, the Crimson Eagles reversed Friday night's fortune on the offensive end, burning the nets by shooting 61.5 percent in the opening half. When all was said and done, the Crimson Eagles' 51.1 percent shooting clip for the game equated a 29.1 percent change over Friday night's collective effort of 22 percent.
PBU led 39-27 by the break and at one point led by as many as 15. Atlanta would manage to dwindle the edge to just eight late in the game, but several timely PBU buckets down the stretch helped keep the sixth seed from getting any closer.
Junior Dani Norton poured in 24 points and 11 boards for the evening, and Lindsey Fornwalt and Summer Mullen both chipped in with eight points. Allison Montgomery, in her final contest as a Crimson Eagle, snagged 10 boards. At the conclusion of the tournament, Norton was named to the All-Tournament Team, marking the first time she has received the award in her career.
PBU's third place finish marks it's highest since a second place showing in 2002 when the Crimson Eagles were beaten out by Simpson University (CA) for the Championship.
PBU concludes their season with a 9-21 overall record.
