LANGHORNE, PA - As the women's basketball team found out Saturday afternoon, it takes two full halves of consistent, solid play to win a college basketball game.
For 28 minutes, the Crimson Eagles did just that. But the opening of Saturday's game against Marywood University was a different story.
The Pacers began the afternoon by sprinting out to a 16-5 advantage behind a five for five shooting clip from the field. Marywood would extend their early edge to 30-10 lead before a Crimson Eagle timeout at the eight minute mark would finally help slow down the visitor's dominating first half performance.
Battling back-and-forth the remainder of the opening period, PBU would go into the break trailing 43-25. A second half effort filled with poise and confidence would see the Crimson Eagles at one point pull to within 13, but the visitors managed to fend off PBU the remainder of the way during Marywood's eventual 15 point victory.
The Crimson Eagles shot just 24.0 percent in the early going compared with Marywood's first half output of 54.5 percent. PBU also went just six of 26 from beyond the arc for the game.
Junior Dani Norton paced the host squad with 18 points, six boards, and three assists. Rookie Sara Poole added 11 points and three steals and second-year guard Dani Hooper chipped in 10 points and four of eight shooting.
The Crimson Eagles slip to 4-15 following the loss while Marywood improves to 14-7. The basketball team will look to bounce back on Tuesday when the group heads north to Keystone College to square off with the Giants at 6:00 pm.
