LANGHORNE, PA - During their first go-around less than one month ago, it took PBU nearly 30 full minutes to secure a comfortable lead over rival Lancaster Bible College.
On Friday, it took less than five.
The Crimson Eagles wasted little time against the Chargers, imposing their will on the visitors through the opening five minutes of play to help create a gap that would last the remainder of play during PBU's 76-49 win. A 12-0 spurt during the opening span would help set the tone for a game that saw the Crimson Eagles dominate their counterpart in one tell-all statistic: a 30-9 discrepancy in points off turnovers for the game.
PBU forced 25 Lancaster turnovers - thanks, in part, to an effective trapping scheme - that helped the Crimson Eagles accumulate the 21-point spread in points off giveaways. Plagued by a 16-8 deficit in offensive rebounds during their first meeting, the Crimson Eagles also managed to have a more productive evening on the glass as PBU amassed a 17-9 margin in second chance points for the night.
Junior Dani Norton scorched the Chargers with 27 points and 10 boards while hitting an efficient 10 of 18 shots from the floor. Senior Summer Mullen added 16 points and five assists on while nailing seven of 12 attempts, and senior forward Allison Montgomery finished her second straight contest in double figures with 12.
The win gives PBU their second straight NCCAA II East Region Title as the Crimson Eagles came out victorious by a 75-35 count against Valley Forge Christian College in last year's championship match.
Currently tabbed seventh in the nation in NCCAA II women's basketball, the Crimson Eagles pick up an automatic bid into the upcoming NCCAA II National Tourney to be held March 10-14 at Kentucky Christian University. Stay tuned for details.
