HUMMEL’S WHARF, PA - In their third match of the fall season, the Crimson Eagles tied for 11th place out of 18 teams in the Susquehanna University Fall Invitational.

Battling what can easily be termed as dreadful golf conditions that included rain, wind, and cold temperatures, PBU fought through the aforementioned obstacles to generate a collective score of 327 on the afternoon at Susquehanna Valley Country Club.

The Crimson Eagles played well on the par 70, 6261 yard course, but still had trouble keeping pace with some of the top teams in the region.

“We played a very strong field today, to say the least,” stated head coach Brett Nelson following the conclusion of the event. “It was probably the toughest competition we've ever faced as a whole.”

But not only was the competition tough, the weather was a huge presence as well.

“Weather was a major factor today as we played in a driving rain for about an hour and a light rain for much of the round,” continued Nelson “For a while, putting was impossible as the greens were puddling up pretty good. I was proud of the way the guys hung in there in the pouring rain and still came in with low 80's rounds.”

Sophomore Tim Slothower, playing in just his second career match, turned in a highly impressive 81 for the day while classmate and always-consistent Corey Snyder also finished with a similar count of 81. Senior Nate King chipped in with an 82 while Jared Wilcox, who is coming off a school-record 74, managed an 83. Garry North fired his career low in his short collegiate career with an 85.

“Tim had a really good day shooting an 81 and has been a pleasant surprise for us this season. He has played golf for a few years but only got serious about it this summer so we're excited to see what he'll do in the future for us.  Corey was steady again shooting an 81 and tripled two par five's so that really hurt him. Other than those two holes, he played as good as anyone in the field.”

The men’s golf team will finish out their fall season at the Franklin and Marshall Invitational at Bent Creek Country Club on October 6th. Tee time is 12:30 pm.
