Crimson Eagles Too Much for Lady Patriots

Box Score

LANGHORNE, PA – If Valley Forge Christian College didn’t know it entering Tuesday’s game with the Crimson Eagles, they sure know it now. Dani Norton can flat out shoot the rock.

Norton scorched the visiting Patriots with a career high 35 points Tuesday, knocking down 14 of 23 shots including a blistering seven for 10 effort from beyond the arc. The 5’7 junior guard also carded a game-high 13 boards to go with five assists, three steals, and no turnovers during PBU’s 87-42 win over Valley Forge.

In PBU’s home and season opener, Norton and the Crimson Eagles jumped out early, building up a 21-4 lead over the first seven minutes of action fueled by eight quick points from their All-American guard. The Patriots would manage to keep the host squad’s advantage within 14 at the 2:36 mark in the opening period, but back-to-back buckets from sophomore Lisa Garner and Norton to end the half gave PBU a 37-19 edge during the break.

It wouldn’t get any easier for the Patriots over the second 20.

The Crimson Eagles would swell their advantage to as much as 46 at one point late in the second stanza, thanks – in part – to 25 Valley Forge cough-ups for the game, leading to a 35-7 advantage in points off turnovers in favor of the host squad.

In addition to a significant margin in the TO column, PBU managed huge advantages in total assists (26 to 6), rebounds (45 to 27), and field goal percentage (52.8 to 27.7) for the game.

Sophomore Lisa Garner, playing for her first time in a Crimson uniform, poured home 12 points on six of nine shooting while pulling down five boards. Junior Lindsey Fornwalt added 12 points and snagged eight boards, and rookie point guard Sara Pool chipped in with six points, three steals, and a game-high seven assists and her first collegiate action. Senior Summer Mullen was all over the hardwood, contributing eight points, six boards, six assists, and three steals in 31 minutes of work.

After averaging just 57.3 points per game a year ago, the team’s 87 point outburst ties their biggest scoring binge since the 2006 season when the group put up 92 points in an early season game against Valley.

The Crimson Eagles will grab their travel bags to head to Lakeland, Florida this weekend to go up against Clearwater Christian College and Southeastern University. PBU will take on Clearwater on Friday at 5:00 pm and will follow up with a 3:00 matchup on Saturday with Southeastern.
