Hall of Honor
Director of Athletics David Babb and the Cairn University Athletic Department are proud to welcome Brigid Shehan into the prestigious Cairn Athletics Hall of Honor, made official during the 2024 induction ceremony on the afternoon of Homecoming, Saturday, September 28, 2024.
Brigid was a three-sport athlete for the PBU Crimson Eagles (now Cairn Highlanders) as a standout player in Women's Volleyball and Softball for four years in addition to two seasons of Women's Basketball. In 96 matches played, Brigid accumulated over 1,000 career kills and points (3rd all-time) and is the program record holder with 1,414 career digs, earning her 1st Team All-Colonial States Athletics Conference First Team honors in 2013 & 2014. Nationally, she was named 1st Team NCCAA East Region for her sophomore through senior seasons and a 2nd Team NCCAA Division II All-American in 2012 & 2013, reaching the NCCAA National Tournament three times in her career.
In softball, Shehan was a .357 career hitter (9th all-time), getting on base at a rate of .439 (4th all-time), with the second-most home runs (6) in program history and most career RBI (104) while starting in all 146 games played.
She led her teams to four CSAC 3D Team Award, recognizing the teams in each sport that best demonstrate the NCAA Division-III philosophy of "Discover, Develop, Dedicate". Academically, she was named to the CSAC All-Academic team for her entire career in the fall and spring semesters as well as a NCCAA All-American Scholar Athlete in 2013 & 2014.
At the annual athletic department awards, Shehan was named Co-Most Valuable Player in 2012 and Most Valuable Player in 2014 in Volleyball, and Most Valuable Player for Softball in 2013 & 2015 in addition to the Highlander Award in 2015. As a senior, Shehan received recognition as the winner of both the Clarence E. Mason Award for Athletic Excellence (recognizing a senior student-athlete who has made the greatest contribution to their athletic programs through a high level of competition, leadership, and sportsmanship.) and Martha MacCullough Award for Athletic Recognition (senior student-athlete who by her outstanding athletic achievements over multiple seasons, has brought the highest level of regional and national attention to their athletic program.)
Since graduating, Shehan has been teaching Health and Physical Education at Collegium Charter High School in Exton, PA since 2016 (in her 9th year) and is also privileged to be the volleyball and softball varsity head coach there. This school year a student of hers and Shehan started a Bible Club called BLAST which is based off of the theme of Matthew 5:13-16 (Being Light and Salt Together).
She remarked the following on her induction: "Being inducted into the Hall of Honor is such an amazing privilege! I remember being a prospective student-athlete and seeing the plaques of the previous inductees on a visitation day. I was incredibly impressed by their accomplishments and dedication to playing sports at PCB/PBU/Cairn… As an athlete at Cairn, I really loved the opportunity to play at a competitive level in several sports all while learning about how to remember that God is the giver of our talents…To be recognized as someone who contributed in the same way as those previous members is a true honor! I am also incredibly honored to be inducted alongside of my former professor, Mr. Fanus!! He really inspired me by his support of the athletics program and the overall mission of Cairn University through his attendance at many athletic events."
