The Highlanders came out of this afternoon's double header against Valley Forge Christian College with 2 convincing wins; 23-1 and 9-1 respectively. With the help of solid batting, smart base running, and ace pitching by Joey Nieves-Markee and Tyson Rohrs, Cairn University had a total of 37 hits today, allowing only 8 Valley Forge hits.
In game one the Highlanders batted through the lineup in three innings out of seven. In the second inning Cairn stole 6 bases, and Caleb Lang stole home. The Highlanders stole 13 bases in the game.
Caleb Lang and Kenny Searle both went 4-6 with 4 RBI's.
Joey Nieves-Markee had a solid outing, pitching 6 innings, allowing only one run and earning 14 strikeouts. This matchup clinched his first win of the season.
In game 2, the Highlanders continued the base stealing extravaganza, taking 14 bases in the game. Valley Forge continued with the sloppy play, advancing Cairn runners with errors and walks. Jacob Allen, Caleb Lang and Trent Fiori all went 3-4 with 1 RBI each. The Highlanders came out with the second win, 9-1.
Tyson Rohrs got his third win of the season, pitching a complete game and earning 10 strikeouts.
The Highlanders are now hoping to build some momentum after two excellent wins as they prepare to face BBC tomorrow at 1:00.
