Langhorne, PA - Highlanders Drop a pair on the final day of Conference Play.
Game 1:
Cairn (1-32 / 0-14 United East) was playing from behind very early on in the game after Keystone (23-9 / 14-0 United East) scored 2 runs in the second inning. Keystone tacked on another run in the top of the 4th inning to go up 3-0 over the Highlanders. In the top of the 5th inning the Highlanders turned the ball over to freshman pitcher
Jack Croft (Eastampton, NJ / Rancocas Valley Regional High School). Croft gave his best outing of the season, pitching 6.2 innings for the Highlanders while holding the Keystone offense hitless. In the bottom of the 6th Freshman outfielder
Ethan Perez (Hasbrouck Heights Hasbrouck Heights Highschool) got things started with a lead-off single to left field. Perez followed this up by stealing second and advancing to 3rd on a passed ball. Sophomore Center fielder Cam Burns (Syracuse, NY / Faith Heritage) then grounded out scoring Perez from 3rd. The bottom of the 7th saw the Highlanders load the bases with 3 walks. Perez then continued his strong performance with a 2 RBI double to left-center to knot the game up at 3. Both team's pitching and defense stepped up their performance after the 7th inning. both teams were unable to push a run across the plate for the next 5 innings. Finally in the top of the 13th inning Keystone scored 2 to lead 5-3. Burns was reached base via a HBP to lead-off the bottom of the 13th but the Highlanders were unable to capitalize and fell short 5-3.
Game 2:
Keystone maintained their momentum from the end of game 1 piling on runs early and often in game 2. The Keystone offense scored 1 run in each of the first 2 innings before truly pouring on in the top of the 3rd by scoring 4 runs to go up 6-0. The Highlanders failed to find their footing on offense, failing to score any runs in response to onslaught by Keystone. Keystone continued their impressive offensive play by adding 3 more runs in the 5th inning. Keystone's 11-0 lead held firm through 7 innings which secured the win for Keystone.
