Cairn Women Drop Contest to Giants

Box Score Langhorne, PA- The Cairn Women's basketball team dropped a contest to the Giants of Keystone College by a score of 83-46.

Box Score

The Lady Highlanders were blitzed right out of the gate as the stifling press of the Giants led to a 21-5 lead after the first ten minutes of play.  Despite this large early deficit, the Lady Highlanders would battle back and head into halftime trailing by a score of 34-22.  Eight points and four rebounds from Cairn center Emily Tambussi were pivotal in the slight comeback the Lady Highlanders mounted in the first half.  Additionally, guards Elizabeth Joy Hartzler and Amie Eppolito contributed a combined twelve points and four assists in the first stanza.

After the break, the Lady Highlanders simply could not keep up with the pace the Giants set, and wilted to the intense full court pressure Keystone provided.  Nine second half points from junior forward Brigid Shehan were not enough to keep up with the 19-4 run the Giants mounted over the first eight minutes of play in the second half.  At the ending horn, the Lady Highlanders were defeated by the Giants of Keystone College by a score of 83-46.

Tambussi recorded twelve points and eight rebounds for the night, Hartzler finished with fourteen points, and Regina Younger added four points and eight rebounds of her own.

The Lady Highlanders will resume play on Saturday against Trinity University at 2:00 PM.
