Cairn Triumphs Over Notre Dame (MD)

Box Score Langhorne, PA- The Lady Highlanders defended their home floor and defeated the Gators of Notre Dame (MD) University by a score of 38-30 in tonight's contest.

Box Score

A huge win for Cairn tonight as the Lady Highlanders managed to drop the Gators and achieve victory.  Both sides struggled to find the bottom of the net; but the Lady Highlanders fought hard the entire night and grinded their way to victory.  In the opening half, Cairn opened up a sizable lead due to some stellar defense, and the Lady Highlanders headed into the break leading by a score of 17-7.  When possessions are placed at such a premium, second chances are of great importance; and junior forward Brigid Shehan managed to snag three offensive rebounds in the first half.  In a rare off night for point guard Amie Eppolito, the Lady Highlanders needed offense from another outlet, and freshman Elizabeth Joy Hartzler picked up the mantle with seven pivotal first half points.

The Gators came to play though, as they scored seven unanswered points midway through the second half, bringing the gap as close as one point between the teams.  Clutch free throw shooting from Eppolito, great rebounding by newcomer Whitney Seidel, and two huge three pointers to close the game by Hartzler sealed the deal on the Lady Highlanders conference victory.

Rebounding was a huge plus for Cairn tonight as four players corralled seven or more rebounds.  The Lady Highlanders saw contributions up and down the board tonight and the noteworthy performers in this victory were:

Amie Eppolito (12 points, 8 rebounds, 5 assists)
Elizabeth Joy Hartzler (13 points)
Brigid Shehan (7 points, 7 rebound, 2 assists)
Whitney Seidel (10 rebounds in only 15 minutes of gameplay)
Emily Tambussi (4 points, 9 rebounds)
Regina Younger (5 rebounds, 4 steals)

The Lady Highlanders will seek another victory when they host Neumann University Saturday afternoon at 2:00 pm.
