Cairn Women Unable to Overcome Conference Rival

Box Score Allentown, PA- The Lady Highlanders dropped a close contest tonight against the Falcons of Cedar Crest College.

Box Score

Despite an exceptional performance from Cairn point guard Amie Eppolito the Lady Highlanders were unable to overcome the hot shooting of Cedar Crest's Breonna Lewis (23 points, 12 rebounds). In a game that the Falcons led from the outset, the Lady Highlanders simply could not muster enough offense to overcome an early deficit.

It is said that basketball is a game of runs, and tonight's contest greatly validated that statement. The first ten minutes of the game were very equal as the teams grinded to a score of 13-11, until a Dejanet Lantion jumper sparked the Falcons to an 8-0 run. Three treys in a row from Eppolito and freshman Elizabeth Joy Hartzler closed the gap, but the Falcons would close out the first half leading by a score 34-20.

Cedar Crest carried on the momentum from the first half, scoring the first 7 points after the break, stretching the lead all the way to twenty-one. Illustrating a great deal of resiliency, the Lady Highlanders went on a thirteen point run of their own, until Lewis stopped the bleeding with a pair of free throws. At the end, Cairn came up just short, falling to the Falcons by a final score of 55-42.

Noteworthy performers for the Highlanders on the night were:
Amie Eppolito (20 points, 6 rebounds, 3 assists)
Elizabeth Joy Hartzler (12 points, 4 three pointers)
Emily Tambussi, Brigid Shehan, Regina Younger (Combined for 20 rebounds)

The Lady Highlanders face their next challenge Wednesday night against rival Baptist Bible College in Clarks Summit, PA.
