Mason, OH - Cairn University suffered an opening day defeat at the NCCAA II World Series, losing to the top-seeded Toccoa Falls 11-0.
The Highlanders still have an outside shot of reaching the final, however, as the tournament is a double-elimination format.
With the loss, Cairn now moves on to play Arlington Baptist College. Arlington lost 2-0 to Clearwater Christian.
The Eagles scored seven runs in the bottom of the fourth after being held to only two runs in the opening three innings. The Highlanders were shutout as Toccoa Falls activated the "mercy rule", winning by ten or more runs after five innings.
