Mason, OH - The Cairn University baseball team bowed out of the NCCAA II World Series having done what no other team in the baseball program's history has... winning a game at nationals.
In the double-elimination tournament, the Highlanders dropped a 11-0 decision to two-time defending champions and #1 seed Toccoa Falls in the opening round. On Thursday, Cairn faced off with Arlington Baptist in a win-or-go home scenario.
The Highlanders triumphed 5-4 thanks to a four run fourth inning. Cairn came into the bottom of the inning trailing 3-1. Arlington Baptist made things interesting with a run in th fifth inning, making for a tense finish but the Highlanders held for their first-ever NCCAA Baseball Championship tournament victory.
With the win, the team progressed to the next round where they came up against #2 Florida Christian. This time, however, the competition was too strong as Suns rolled 15-2.
The Highlanders return home with a 2013 record of 10-32, the most wins since 2006.
