Langhorne, PA - Cairn University's baseball team were outgunned by teh Griffins of Gwynedd-Mercy College on Friday, 22-3, dropping their fifth straight game.
Things got off to a bad start for the Highlanders when they allowed four Gwynedd-Mercy runs in the opening frame.
Cairn eventually responded in the bottom of the third, but by that point the Griffins had already added on six more runs to make a 10-0 score. The Highlanders would be shutout the rest of the way, while unable to stop the Griffins from making contact with a lot of pitches.
From the fourth to the seventh inning, Gwynedd-Mercy piled on twelve more runs in a day that wouldn't end for Cairn.
In the third, with the Highlanders up to bat but facing two outs, freshman
Caleb Moore earned his third-career hit.
Jeremy McAlack follow Moore on base with a walk, before
Jon Sanville doubled, his first of the season, knocking in Cairn's first run.
Kenneth Searle cleared the bases of everyone but himself with a triple. It was Searle's second triple of the season and added two RBI's to his team-leading 14. That made things 10-3, but that was the best of it on a tough day for the Highlanders.
Searle did finish 3 for 4 with two RBIs.
The Griffins recorded hits from 14 different players.
The loss drops Cairn to 3-16 on the season and keeps them winless in the Colonial States Athletic Conference, 0-6.
