Auburndale, FL - In their final game of their trip south, the Cairn University baseball team were tripped up by Sewanee: University of the South.

Early on, the Tigers of Sewanee jumped to a 6-0 lead after three innings, before the Highlanders got on back in the top of the fourth inning. Sewanee answered with three more runs of their own in the bottom of the fourth, extending their lead to 9-1.

In the seventh inning, Cairn scored a pair of runs hoping to build some traction for a comeback, but Sewanee had an answer in the bottom of every inning the Highlanders scored. With four runs in the bottom of the seventh inning, the Tigers closed out the game through the ten-run mercy rule.

The Highlanders concluded the RussMatt Invitational tournament with five losses but also will return home with a win under their belt heading into conference play. Cairn is now 1-10.

They return to action on Tuesday, March 19 when they host non-conference Eastern University.
