Eagle Lake, FL - Cairn University's baseball team fell 10-0 to Vassar College on Thursday afternoon.
Vassar succeeded in defeating the Highlanders by scoring 5 runs in both the top of the 1st and 9th inning. Outside of those two innings, both teams remained scoreless.
Chad Hollinger had the best outing at the plate for the Highlanders, going 2-for-4, while
Kenneth Searle blasted a double in his only hit of the game.
Jeremy McAlack and
Ben Cardillo each went 1-for-3, while freshman
Kyle Parisi came in late to go 1-for-2.
In his first collegiate start,
Tyson Rohrs calmed his nerves after giving up 5 runs in the opening inning. The rookie pitcher blanked the Brewers over the next 5 innings, allowing only 3 more hits after the initial onslaught. Both
Dean Diernbach and
Andrew Gordon pitched more than an inning in relief, with
Caleb Lang closing things out and helping get the final two outs.
Brett Zaziski went 3-for-5 for Vassar. Joe Lovizio gets the win for the Brewers, shuting out the Highlanders in 6 innings of work.
The loss drops Cairn to 1-9. Tomorrow, the Highlanders will wrap up their raod trip against Sewanee University.
