Late Game Heroics Nearly Earns Cairn First Win

Winter Haven, FL - Cairn University rallied to take a late lead in a back-and-forth game with Medaille College, only for the Mavericks to mount a rally of their own.

Cairn scored a run off of a wild pinch in the top of the 1st to take a 1-0 lead. Medaille scored 4 runs in the 1st and 2nd innings to take a 4-1 lead.

A 2-run triple from Kenneth Searle triggered a 3-run top of the 3rd inning for the Highlanders, tying the game at 4-4.

After Medaille regained a 1 run lead in the bottom of the 3rd, Mitch Peiffer would help Cairn knot things up at 5-5 in the top of the 5th. Once again, the Mavericks responded with 2 runs to charge back in front, 7-5.

Cairn found itself trailing 8-5 heading into the top of the 8th and chances running out when back-to-back doubles from freshman duo Caleb Lang and Searle kick-started a 4-run rally that saw the Highlanders take a 9-8 lead. Unfortunately for the Highlanders, Medaille was able to pull another comeback, scoring 6 runs in the bottom of the 8th, and would hold on to a 14-9 win.

Cairn's Jeremy McAlack had a solid performance at the plate, going 4-for-5. Both Searle and Lang went 3-for-5, with Searle knocking in 3 runs. Eric Hodges earned 2 RBI's with a solo hit.

Cairn returns to action on Sunday against Grace College.
