Aston, PA - Following their first conference win of the season, the Cairn University's women's basketball team fell to conference opponent Neumann University.
Hannah McCardle continued her hot-streak, leading the Highlanders with 25 points. She finished with a career-high 30 points last time out. But she wasn't the only one to continue on a roll.
Ruth Nelson finished 18 points after logging 25 points in the previous game. Nelson had a team-high 9 rebounds. In 12 minutes of action, freshman guard
Regina Younger scored her first collegiate points with a basket in the first half.
The Knights jumped ahead in a hurry, limiting the Highlanders to only 2 points in the opening seven minutes, building a 21-2 lead. Neumann would take a 47-21 lead into the break.
After trailing by as much as 34 points, Cairn was able to chip away at the lead in the second half, but eventually fell 80-58.
Bethany Humenik paced the Knights with 28 points for a game-high.
The Highlanders fall to 1-19 and 1-12 in conference play.
Cairn will close out the 2012-13 season on a 4-game home-stretch, starting on Wednesday when they play host to Cedar Crest College. Cedar Crest won the early season meeting 60-53. Cairn is currently inbattled in a three-way tie at the bottom of the conference standings with Cedar Crest and Notre Damr (MD). A win on Wednesday will go a long way towards finishing 10th.
