Langhorne, PA - Taking on the defending Colonial States Athletic Conference champions was never going to be easy for the struggling Highlanders.

Cairn came into tonight's game 0-4 against Gwynedd-Mercy College since joining the CSAC, and the Griffins did everything in their power to make sure that record moved to 0-5. The Griffins forced 33 turnovers from the Highlanders, allowing Gwynedd-Mercy a 69-49 advantage in field-goal attempts. Another strategy from the Griffins was to suffocate Cairn's leading scorer
Hannah McCardle anytime she touched the ball. With the extra attention, McCardle struggled from the field, failing to score a single point. She did, however, manage a game-high 5 assists.
With their lead offensive threat neutralized, the Highlanders'
Ruth Nelson stepped up for a season-high 15 points and coming down with 9 rebounds. Both
Haley Weber and
Erin Greenwood logged 8 points each.
The Griffin's were led by sophomore forward Shea Wallis with 14 points and a game-high 12 rebounds. Jordan Dominic had 13 points, followed by CJ Hilliard who recorded 10.
Gwynedd-Mercy had a 44-17 lead at halftime and extended their margin of victory to 85-38 by th final buzzer. Ten different Griffins recorded baskets on the night as they shot a combined 49% from the floor, including 7 3-pointers.
With the defeat, Cairn is now 0-11, 0-5 CSAC. GMC improves to 8-5, 4-0 in conference.
Next on the calendar is Keystone College at 1pm on Saturday. Keystone won both meetings last year between these two teams.
