In the opening game of the doubleheader, several shutout innings sandwiched 9 combined runs in the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th innings.

Valley Forge took a 2-0 lead in the top of the second inning assisted by a couple of PBU errors, but the Crimson Eagles would come back in the bottom of the 3rd inning. The rally started with the first of Jon Moore's (Shelton, CT / Shelton) two hits on the day. After he advanced to 2nd on a Shawn Moraca (Kerhonkson, NY / Wawarsing Christian) ground, Jeremy McAlack (Newtown, PA / Council Rock North) made it on after being hit by a pitch. Chad Hollinger (Leola, PA / Conestoga Valley) used his only hit of the game to make it count, smashing a double that drove in Moore and took McAlack to third. Saturday's hero, Austin Arseneau (Maple Grove, MN / Homeschool) grounded out but knocked in McAlack from third to tie the score at 2-2. But PBU wasn't done yet. Mike Sundholm (Brooklyn, NY / Fort Hamilton) earned an RBI with his single that scored Hollinger and gave PBU the 3-2 lead.

The Patriots would respond with 3 runs of their own, all after their first two batters grounded and flied out. Valley Forge's Echeona lined out to Nick Schnittjer (Perkasie, PA / Pennridge) to end the scoring.

Matt Peeling (Phoenixville, PA / Phoenixville) would score in the bottom of the 4th inning taking PBU to within one run of the Patriots, 5-4, but Aponte and Moritz would combine to keep the Crimson Eagles off the scoreboard for the remaining 3 innings for the win.

Round 2 of the doubleheader began with Jon Sanville on the mound for PBU and Strohm on the mound for the Patriots. It would prove to be a pitching duel.

Sanville would strike out 4 batters and give up only 6 hits in 7 innings of work. Strohm struck out 5 Crimson Eagles and gave up 7 hits. Although Strohm would normally be pleased with only 2 earned runs allowed, it wasn't enough to top Sanville's 1 earned run.

PBU was made to sweat though. After 5 scoreless innings, Valley Forge jumped on the board to take a 1-0 lead.

The Crimson Eagles countered with an Arseneau triple that eventually brought him home when Sanville grounded out. PBU did have a chance to take the lead in the same inning when the very next batter, Nick Schnittjer also tripled, but he would be left stranded on a Moraca pop out to the short stop.

Into the 7th inning tied at 1-1, PBU made quick work of the Patriots going three up, three down. Now was PBU's chance. Justin Nolan (Philadelphia, PA / International Christian) stole second after coming on in place of Dean Diernbach (Fountainville, PA / Central Bucks West) who was hit by a pitch to make it on base. PBU had runners at the corners when Mike DeLuca (Newburgh, NY / Marlboro) singled, but as DeLuca stole second on the following pitch, Nolan was caught stealing home. Another chance would come though, as PBU once again had runners on the corners when McAlack singled and DeLuca advanced to third. Chad Hollinger would walk, loading the bases, after McAlack had stolen second. For the second time in 3 games, Austin Arseneau would be the final batter for the Crimson Eagles. On Saturday, the game ended in dramatic fashion as Arseneau hit a walk-off homerun to win the game. Today, not so dramatic. Arseneau was hit by a pitch. With bases already loaded, DeLuca made it home and gave PBU the 2-1 victory.

The Crimson Eagles will take on Polytechnic this Thursday @ 3pm in Langhorne.
