Scranton, PA - In a non-conference match-up, the Crimson Eagles shared a game apiece with the Defenders of Baptist Bible in a match-up that determines the seeding headed into the NCCAA East Region playoffs scheduled for Monday, April 23.
Jeremy McAlack (Newtown, PA / Council Rock North) went a perfect 2-for-2 and scored 3 runs in game one against BBC, helping the Crimson Eagles to a 7-3 victory.
Jon Sanville (Duncannon, PA / Susquenita) was on the mound for PBU and he lasted all 7 innings. Sanville allowed only 4 hits, 2 earned runs (3 total), while striking out 6 Defenders.
With at least a share in the days spoils, PBU built a lead 2-0 lead going into the 5th inning of game two. Baptist Bible would tie the game a 2-2 in the bottom of the 5th before PBU regained a 3 run advantage in the top of the 6th inning. After a walk and two stolen bases by
Austin Arseneau (Maple Grove, MN / Homeschool), Jon Sanville hit an RBI double giving PBU a 3-2 lead. Three batters later,
Jon Moore (Shelton, CT / Shelton) hit a double RBI single to extend the Crimson Eagles lead to 5-2.
Baptist Bible, however, would put together 7 runs in their final 3 at bats, helping them complete an unlikely 9-8 come-from-behind win and a split on the day.
After a solid pitching performance in game one, Jon Sanville replicated that performance at the plate in game two, batting 3-for-5 with 2 runs and 2 RBI. Also impressing was
Mark Wasson (Willow Grove, PA / Homeschool) who went 2-for-3, scored twice, and knocked in one RBI. McAlack finished the day 4-for-7.
PBU moves to 5-24 overall, equaling their total number of wins in 2011.
Next up is a trip to Gwynedd Valley, PA to face conference foe Gwynedd Mercy in a single game on Friday at 3pm. That game will be followed by a doubleheader hosted at PBU on Saturday.
