Box Score | Game 2
In the opening game of the doubleheader, it took a 9-run bottom of the 6th inning run from Keystone to overcome a 3-1 Philadelphia Biblical University lead.
Dean Diernbach (Fountainville, PA / Central Bucks West) had arguably his best outing as a pitcher for 5 innings. Against the #7 ranked team in the country, and the team that had compiled 26 runs the day before, Diernbach had given up only 2 hits after 5 innings.
After a single run scored by the host in the 1st inning, PBU had taken a 2-1 lead in the top of the 2nd and eventually a 3-1 lead after scoring again in the 4th inning.
Jon Moore (Shelton, CT / Shelton) doubled down the left field line, scoring
Jon Sanville (Duncannon, PA / Susquenita) in the 2nd inning. Two batters later, Moore found himself stepping on home plate off of a
Jeremy McAlack (Newtown, PA / Council Rock North) single to left field. Heading into the 4th inning and leading 2-1 still,
Austin Arseneau (Maple Grove, MN / Homeschool) drove in
Shawn Moraca (Kerhonkson, NY / Wawarsing Christian) on another single stretching the Crimson Eagles lead to 3-1.
After limiting Keystone to only 2 hits, 1 run, and 4 scoreless innings after 5, the hinges cames off on the PBU defense. Diernbach and the Crimson Eagles were tagged for 9 runs in the bottom of the 6th, and all but erasing any hope of an upset that would sure to make headlines through the NCAA.
Keystone closed out game one 10-3.
The Giants made sure there would no repeat of game one or the need for any late game heroics. Keystone scored in every inning in game two, including 10 runs in the first 3 innings.
PBU held a 2-0 lead going into the bottom of the first, but the Giants would top that with 4 of their own and would lead throughout; eventually sealing the season series with a 14-5 win.
Austin Arseneau would finish an impressive 4-for-7 on the day for PBU, including 2 RBI's.
PBU falls to 4-23, 1-11 in conference.
