Baseball Overpowered by Keystone

Sanville (L) and Peeling (R) watch on during the PBU/Keystone game.
Langhorne, PA - The Crimson Eagles hosted the defending conference champions and the 2011 NCAA Div III World Series finalist Keystone Giants on Friday and a 10-run 3rd inning pretty much summed things up.

Box Score

There's no denying the talent of perennial baseball power Keystone College, a baseball talent factory and a program as strong as any you will find around the country. However, for two innings Philadelphia Biblical University hung with the Giants. Mike DeLuca (Newburgh, NY / Malboro) was on the mound for PBU and had kept Keystone relatively quiet, giving up only 3 hits and 1 run. But by the time the third inning had rolled around, the Giants had honed in on DeLuca and put up 10 runs in the top of the third. PBU didn't help themselves with 3 errors in that inning.

Justin Nolan (Philadelphia, PA / International Christian) came in to pitch for the Crimson Eagles after four innings and shared a similar fate as DeLuca; three decent innings against a very strong team and one to forget. Nolan was hit with 8 runs in the top of the 5th, but found his groove in the 6th, 7th, and 8th.

Keystone rocked two homeruns on their way to a 26-4 win.

PBU had four batters finish 1-for-3; Jon Sanville (Duncannon, PA / Susquenita), Chad Hollinger (Leola, PA / Conestoga Valley), Nick Schnittjer (Perkasie, PA / Pennridge), and Shawn Moraca (Kerhonkson, NY / Wawarsing Christian). Eric Hodges (Newport News, VA / Denbigh Baptist) scored 2 runs while going 1-for-2.

PBU will now travel up the Northeast Extension to La Plume, PA to take on Keystone in a doubleheader on Saturday.
