Lions Snag Crimson Eagles

Langhorne, PA - Penn St.-Abington used a 6-run 8th inning to break away from the Crimson Ealges in what otherwise seemed a close game.

Jon Sanville (Duncannon, PA / Susquenita) was on the mound for the Crimson Eagles and shutout the Lions over the first two innings before allowing 3 runs in the third. The 4th inning was another shutout for Sanville before Penn.St-Abington would add on runs over the next 4 innings. Sanville lasted 6 innings, striking out 4 batters, giving up 7 hits, and 7 earned runs.

Despite only generating 4 hits on offense, PBU stayed in the game with their defensive play. The Crimson Eagles gave up 18 hits on the day, but forced Penn St.-Abington to leave 16 runners on base.

That is until the 8th inning when the Lions broke the game open with 6 runs to put the game out of reach.

The Crimson Eagles also used the 8th inning to put up some scores. Both Jeremy McAlack (Newtown, PA / Council Rock North) and Chad Hollinger (Leoloa, PA / Conestoga Valley) were hit by pitches to start the bottom of the 8th for PBU. Sanville then helped his own cause by loading the bases when he walked. Michael Sundholm (Brooklyn, NY / Fort Hamilton) then doubled, driving home two runs. Dean Diernbach (Fountainville, PA / Central Bucks West) then flied out to center field, allowing Sanville to tag up from third and add a 3rd run of the inning.

That would be all the offense PBU would muster as Penn St.-Abington would take the game 14-3.

This Thursday, PBU will face off against Lancaster Bible College in a double-header at PBU. First pitch is at 1pm.
