Pacers Knock Off Crimson Eagles

Box Score

Scranton, PA
- With a trip up the Northeast Extension, the Crimson Eagles got their Colonial States Athletic Conference schedule underway with a date with the Marywood Pacers.

Marywood used 4 runs in the bottom of the 1st to create some room between them and the visiting Crimson Eagles early on. A couple of errors on the part of PBU led to the quick opening, but the Crimson Eagles quickly regained their composure and settled down.

Pitcher Mike Sundholm (Brooklyn, NY / Fort Hamilton) and the PBU defense would hold the Pacers scoreless over the course of the next two innings. In the third, Sundholm would strike out two consecutive Pacers to leave two Marywood runners stranded on base to end the inning.

The 4th inning saw Mark Wasson (Willow Grove, PA), Jon Sanville (Duncannon, PA / Susquenita), and Mike DeLuca (Newburgh, NY / Marlboro) complete 4-6-3 double play to close out the inning, but not before the Pacers attached one more run to the score on the previous hit.

Marywood added three more runs in the bottom of the 5th, starting when Jon Woytach blasted a double down the left field line to bring home 2 runners. Woytach would eventually score as well when Nick Pasqualichio nailed a triple to right center, but Sundholm would see out the inning with no more damage done.

Anthony Castellano led off the bottom of the 6th inning with a solo blast to left field for Marywood to make it 9-0 at that point.

The top of the 7th inning saw the Crimson Eagles bats in full swing. Nick Schnittjer (Perkasie, PA / Pennridge) got his first hit of the day on a leadoff double. Chad Hollinger (Leola, PA / Conestoga Valley) kept things rolling by reaching base just before Jon Sanville singled to send Schnittjer home for the score. Sundholm would help himself out on the offensive end by singling to load the bases. With the bases loaded though, it appeared as though PBU would leave them stranded after back-to-back strikeouts but Mike DeLuca used his Crimson Eagle vision to take a walk, sending Hollinger home for the score. 9-2 after 7 innings.

Marywood would tack on 3 more runs in the final innings, securing the win 12-2.

The Pacer's pitcher, Nicholas DeFobo, set a new school record with 17 strikeouts.

Despite giving up 9 runs, only 2 of those runs were earned against PBU's Sundholm. Sundholm was credited with 3 strikeouts.

Marywood improves to 6-5 while PBU slips to 0-9 on the year.
