Virginia Intermont All Over Crimson Eagles

Bristol, VA - This might not be the start 1st year coach Jan Haas had envisioned when taking the reigns of the NCCAA East Region defending champs.

In a 12 run opening inning, Virginia Intermont proved too powerful for the Crimson Eagles.

It started with a quick 3 up, 3 down for the Crimson Eagles. Then the host had their turn at bat. Adrien Rivera was the first batter for the Cobras and all seemed fine when he had a routine fly out. What followed can be described at chaotic. Virginia Intermont would nearly go through the batting line-up twice before the Cobra's Brandon Palmer popped out to end the 12-run 1st inning.

Although the early afternoon nightmare wasn't over for Coach Haas and the Crimson Eagles, at least the worst of it was.

The Cobras tacked on 3 more runs in both the 2nd and 5th innings, including a 3-run home-run in the 5th for Tyler Turner.

Earlier in the 5th, PBU was up on the scoreboard for the first time. Mike Sundholm (Brooklyn, NY / Fort Hamilton) doubled and then was replaced by Ian Zang (Alburtis, PA / Emmaus) as a pinch-runner. After two outs threatened to leave runners in scoring position, Jon Sanville (Duncannon, PA / Susquenita) singled and it was enough to send Ian Zang home for the score.

It was 15-1 at that point.

The top of the 6th saw another PBU double, this time from Mark Wasson (Willow Grove, PA / Home School). After Wasson advanced to third on a wild pitch, Austin Arseneau (Maple Grove, MN / Home School) earned an RBI with his sacrifice fly to send Wasson home.

The Cobras would score 4 more runs in the bottom of the 6h before blanking the Crimson Eagles in the top of the 7th inning and ending the game, 22-2.

Mike Sundholm and Mark Wasson both finished the day 1-for-2.

Zach Roberts gets the win for Virginia Intermont as the starting pitcher and lasting 2 innings. PBU's Justin Nolan (Philadelphia, PA / International Christian) gets the loss.
