MASON, OH - Making the program's first ever appearance in the NCCAA National Tournament Wednesday morning, the Crimson Eagles' hopes of a monumental upset during the opening round were dashed as Toccoa Falls topped PBU 15-3.
The Eagles struck the Crimson Eagles early and often as Toccoa rolled out to an 8-0 edge by the end of the third frame. The top-seeded Eagles chugged out 15 hits for the game while logging 15 runs in just four innings of work at the plate.
Following two scores from the Crimson Eagles in the top of the fourth, Toccoa responded by crossing the home dish seven times during the bottom of the stanza, cruising to a 15-2 edge before one final run from the visitors pull the count to 15-3.
Mike Sundholm when 2-for-3 with two doubles in the four hole, generating one of PBU's three runs on the day to go along with a solo ribby. Chad Hollinger added a 2-for-3 effort at the plate and Caleb Reimer and Austin Arseneau both added a single hit.
The Crimson Eagles move into the losers bracket following Wednesday's defeat and will go up against the loser of Clearwater Christian College and Manhattan Christian College Thursday morning. Game time is slated for 10:00 am.
