LA PLUME, PA - Facing the top team in the conference and perhaps one of the most feared teams in all of NCAA D3, the Crimson Eagles held their own Sunday afternoon against Keystone College, giving the Giants all they could handle during a 4-0 loss.
With sophomore Dean Diernbach surgically dicing through Keystone's feared batting lineup all afternoon, the visitors stayed within striking distance throughout all nine innings but failed to capitalize when needed.
Allowing just four runs and seven hits in what signals Diernbach's most impressive start on the year for the Crimson Eagles, the lineup backing the 6'4 lefty at the plate failed to produce any runs during a game that signals the team's third shutout effort over the squad's last four tries.
The visitors stranded nine runners throughout the afternoon and were unable to generate hits when necessary despite registering just one less base runner (11-10) than their highly touted counterpart. The Crimson Eagles were fanned 18 times in the losing effort, their worst mark of the season.
The Giants - who have only last once so far in conference play this year - logged two runs during the third and fifth innings but would be hindered into one of their lowest offensive outputs of the season.
Chad Hollinger paced PBU with two hits in four at-bats while Shawn Bramble, Ryan Eshleman, Caleb Reimer, and Austin Arseneau each provided a solo hit.
The Crimson Eagles will return to the diamond on Monday during a road doubleheader with Centenary College. PBU will take on the Cyclones in Flemington, NJ at Diamond Nation with the opening pitch slated for 4:00 pm.
